Healthy journeys are like most things in life, they look very different for each person. This reminds me of the old saying, “Variety is the spice of life”. No matter what your variety is or what your journey looks like there are three basic fitness fundamentals that apply.
I work with women in setting goals, planning steps, coaching, providing accountability, navigating life’s challenges, and being a listening ear. There is variety in the words women use to describe their fitness life.
Fitness Life
The word fitness has other descriptions. Other words used are live a healthy lifestyle, have balance in life, or be athletic. Other descriptions that women say to me are:
- Feel better
- Have active lifestyle
- Keep up with their kids/grandkids
- Eat healthy
- Increase flexibility
- Set goals
- Feel strong
3 Basic Fundamentals
No matter how you describe what you are working towards, there are 3 basic fundamentals for health and fitness. These 3 core necessities are a good place to start on your journey.
- Get 7-8 hours of sleep- Prioritizing sleep is one of the most important things you can do to set yourself up for an energized, successful day. Lack of sleep can open the door to serious health conditions.
- Eat nourishing food- A well-balanced, healthy diet is at the core of well-being. A balanced diet high in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy, and whole grains is needed for optimal energy. You really are what you eat.
- Stay active- 150 minutes or more of moderate intensity physical activity each week is recommended. Physical activity will add to your energy account, not subtract from it.
There are many versions of health and fitness. Everyone has different needs and ideas of what is important to them. No matter the words or the goals, there are three basic fitness fundamentals that we share.
