The secret to healthy eating consists of choosing more whole foods. Eating fewer foods that have been processed and eating more proteins, fruits and vegetables. This is not a diet, because diets are about restrictions. Eating healthfully should be a way of life.
Much of eating healthfully is about our mind set. If we have the mindset that we CAN’T eat something, emotionally it feels like we are denying ourselves of something we want. If our mindset is, I DO NOT WANT to eat something unhealthy it feels more empowering and is easier to make healthy decisions.
The shift between CAN’T and DO NOT WANT becomes the basic difference between achieving a desired healthy lifestyle or falling back into old unhealthy habits.
Here are a few questions for reflection:
- Do you plan your meals ahead of time?
- Do you bring snacks with you or get so hungry you eat what is within reach?
- Do you deprive yourself of everything you love or do you find some balance in what you eat?
