The secret to healthy eating consists of choosing more whole foods. Whole foods include fruits. vegetables nuts and seeds, whole grains, low fat protein, beans and legumes, and healthy fats. This is not a diet, because diets are about restrictions. Healthy eating can be a way of life.
Healthy eating is about your mindset. If we have the mindset that we CAN’T eat something, emotionally it feels like we are denying ourselves of something we want. If our mindset is, I DO NOT WANT to eat something unhealthy it feels more empowering and is easier to make healthy decisions.
The shift between CAN’T and DO NOT WANT becomes the basic difference between achieving a desired healthy lifestyle or falling back into old unhealthy habits and routines.
Here are a few questions for reflection. Do you:
- Plan your meals ahead of time?
- Bring healthy snacks with you so when you get hungry you have something to eat?
- Deprive yourself of everything you love or do you find some balance in what you eat?
