Push-ups are an exercise I have been trying to concur for years. I have tried many modifications and variations as I worked myself up to doing several plank push-ups. (This video shows some variations) I have always wanted to complete push-ups for strength and satisfaction.
Push-ups are Difficult
Push-ups can be difficult for several reasons, including:
- Upper body strength
They require a lot of upper body strength. However, many everyday activities like walking and using the stairs use lower body strength.
- Body weight
Standard push-ups can require that you lift up to 75% of your body weight. For some people, that’s more weight than they’d pick up with free weights.
- Skill exercise
Push-ups are a skill exercise that require a combination of upper body strength, trunk stability, range of motion, and mobility. It takes time to practice these motions and get the correct technique.
Push-up Tips
- Start with easier modifications and work up to the plank push-ups
- Rest more and do fewer reps in a row
- Focus on the lower down
Push-ups are Valuable
Push-ups are important because they can help build strength in your upper body, core, and lower back. They can also improve cardiovascular health.
- Upper body strength
Push-ups work many muscles in your upper body, including your shoulders, triceps, and pectoral muscles.
- Core and lower back strength
When done with proper form, push-ups can also strengthen your core and lower back by engaging your abdominal muscles.
- Cardiovascular health
Push-ups can improve your cardiovascular health by increasing blood flow and strengthening your heart muscle.
How many push-ups can you do in a row? What level of modification do you use? Set a goal and start the journey. I know hard work pays off and you can complete push-ups for strength and satisfaction.
